Charles Ray Camp, of Mesquite, died of cancer on June 27, 2014. He was at home with his wife by his side. Charles had enjoyed a visit with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren the weekend prior to his death. He was born March 9, 1933, in Farmersville, Texas, the only child of Aubrey and Evie Lou Phillips Camp. He had a happy childhood in Texas and enjoyed a close-knit extended family.
Charles served with the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne Division during the Korean conflict.
He married Carolyn Elizabeth Alexander in 1957, and completed a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in 1960. Charles and Carolyn were blessed with two daughters and they settled into family life. His work as a human resources professional took him and his family all over the southern states, but ultimately out west where he lived in Utah and Boise, Idaho for several years. In 1997 his wife, Carolyn, passed away.
In 1998 Charles married Annalee Owen, a co-worker at American Stores Co. in Salt Lake City. In 2002, Charles was retired and they were transferred to Boise, Idaho, with Annalee’s work. They lived in Boise until his wife’s retirement in 2010 when they settled in Mesquite, a wonderful retirement community where friends and family gathered often.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Carolyn; and their infant son, Charles Britton. He is survived by his wife, Annalee; daughters, Laura (John) Combe of Salt Lake City and LeaAnn Kelly of Newport Beach, CA; grandchildren, Kristin (Javier) Zamora of Taylor, UT, Jeff (Melissa) Combe of Salt Lake City, Megan Combe and Kyle Combe of Salt Lake City, Luke Mendoza and Kylie Mendoza of Newport Beach, CA; and three extraordinary great-grandchildren, Taygen and Makya Zamora and Noah Combe.
He’ll be dearly missed by all who knew him. A celebration of Charles’ life will be held on July 12 in Mesquite.
