The nine-hole GAS Club Competition on Monday, July 14, had another very close finish. The winning team is always happy to take the money and the losing teams always say the same thing, “if only I had made that short putt…”

The margin of victory for the three-best-ball team, who shot a 92, consisting of Ben Bishop, Ron (Canuck) Vedd, Sid Bounds and Dave Calmelat was just two tenths of a stroke better than the second place team of Clark Mitchell, John Johnson, Bill Losh and Jim Buttler. With the recent events in the club, the runner up team was shocked to have come up short, even with Losh on their team.

Low net went to Jim Buttler, who shot an even par nine 35 (30.3 net), edging out Alex Churchich’s 37 (32.3 net) by two strokes.

The closest to the pin winners were Andrew Yeh on hole #2, Capt. Ron Nickle on hole #5 and Terry Spriggs on hole #8, even though Spriggs caused some confusion at the end of the day by signing the code name “Kemo Brain”. Spriggs is currently fighting cancer and manages to maintain a positive outlook on life while out on the course with the other players. “We are proud to have him in our group,” said Jim Buttler.

There were five skins paid out in Monday’s event. One each went to Capt. Ron Nickle, Dave Calmelat, Sid Bounds and Spriggs.

The GAS Club meets at the Falcon Ridge Golf Course, 1024 Normandy Lane every Monday and Wednesday. For more information, call the clubhouse at 702-346-6363.
