As part of a state wide effort, the Mesquite Police Department (MPD) participates in Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws (EUDL), which is a grant funded program through the Nevada State Juvenile Justice Commission. MPD Officers have received additional training to conduct these alcohol enforcement events. During the operation MPD Officers supervise underage participants who approach local businesses and attempt to purchase alcohol.

Mesquite Police Officers have conducted several alcohol related compliance checks with local business that sell or serve alcohol. The most recent operation was June 5, 2014 where four (4) bars/taverns were checked; which resulted in three establishments in violation and one in compliance. The servers that sold alcohol to the minors received misdemeanor citations for furnishing liquor to a minor. On January 4, 2014 seven (7) gas/convenience stores were checked and all were found to be incompliance.

The majority of establishments follow proper procedure and deny the underage youth. The Mesquite Police Department is grateful to businesses that properly monitor and train employees to detect and refuse the sale of alcohol to minors. Letters were sent out to business owners/managers congratulating their employee for being in compliance and warning notices were sent out to those found to be in violation.
