July 16th’s GAS Club played a two-man team best-ball competition on all holes except the par 3’s. Two scores on those five and, as you might guess, Bill Losh was back in the winner’s circle as he teamed up with the ‘Right Reverend’ Sidney Bounds. Together, they took the prize money by a huge six strokes. It didn’t take Bounds long to get his “A” game back after teaching school all year, shooting a smooth 77 shows that he will be a factor for the rest of the summer.

Ron Nickle and Alex Churchich were left behind in second place, winning over two other teams by only one stroke.

The closest to the pin awards went to John Johnson on hole #2, Ron Nickle on hole #5, Gar Slater on hole #17 and his brother, Bounds, taking two on holes #8 and #14.

Winning a skin on Wednesday meant that golfers had to shoot in the 70’s, pretty much. John Johnson (77), Capt. Ron Nickle (79) and Alex Churchich (80) each took one skin while Andrew Yeh took home four, shooting 75 for the day.

The GAS Club’s eclectic tournament for 2014 is getting tight at the top and going very low in net scores. In the nine-hole format, Glenn Hood leads with a net 22 (13 under par), one stroke less than Gary Bartlett and Dave Calmelat at 23.

The 18-hole portion of the tournament has a tough leader also, with Alex Churchich holding fast at 48 (23 under par), followed by John Johnson at 49.

The tournament is completed just before Christmas and the final scores are already proving to be interesting.

The GAS Club meets at the Falcon Ridge Golf Course, 1024 Normandy Lane every Monday and Wednesday. For more information, call the clubhouse at 702-346-6363.
