The Southern Nevada Agency Partnership (SNAP) Wilderness Team is sponsoring a series of wilderness hikes this summer on Mount Charleston in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area. The family-friendly hikes through Fletcher Canyon are being organized by the Nevada Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights Alliance as part of the ongoing celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act of 1964.

There are three Saturday hikes scheduled — the first on June 28, 2014, the second on July 12, 2014, and the third on August 16, 2014. Hikers will walk a fairly easy 3-4 miles on a moderate grade. Participants should dress appropriately, wear closed-toe shoes, and bring sunscreen and plenty of water.

The hikes are free of charge, but registration in advance is required. For more information and to register for a hike, please call 702-997-3350. Details are also available on the Nevada Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights website at www.nvoutdoorkids.org. The Nevada Children’s Outdoor Bill of Rights Alliance is facilitated by the Outside Las Vegas Foundation.

SNAP is a partnership comprised of professionals from the Bureau of Land Management, National Park Service, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Forest Service. The agencies work together to coordinate activities that protect, conserve, and encourage enjoyment of public lands in southern Nevada.

The four SNAP agencies manage more than 10 million acres in southern Nevada including national parks, national conservation and recreation areas, national wildlife refuges, national forests, and other public lands.
