LE VAN SHOOTS BEST ROUND EVER AT FALCON RIDGE

Ask Paul LeVan and he will honestly tell you that almost always plays the front side at Falcon Ridge fairly well but the back nine has always given him a lot of trouble preventing him from shooting 18 holes of good golf.  Well today all of that is behind him.  He shot a solid front side one over par 36 and an even better back nine of one over par 37 for 73.  “I believe that this is the best round that I have ever played on this course”.  And what makes it even more remarkable is that he did it without a birdie.  Dave Jordan came in second with his 39-38-77 and Ed Hoepfner kept it cool this day and shot a round that he is more capable of shooting a 37-41-78.  The second big story of the day was that Don Mannon shot his second straight fantastic round this day a 39-43-82 for a net 59 to win low net by six shots over Hoepfner’s 65.  Mannon’s second straight net 50’s propelled him into second place in the summer net tournament.

YEH WINS WITH PAIN – LIRA SCORCHES BACK NINE

Manny Lira really took advantage of the 1,000yds difference between the senior tees and the middle tees at Sky Mt on Thursday.  He shot 41 on the front side and then went ballistic on the back nine scoring two birdies on his way to a one over par 37 and a total gross score of 82.  He was so excited to get home to tell his wife that he was not available for comment after the round.  But this writer is quite sure it is his best nine hole round in a long time if not ever.  Fantastic round Manny!  He was rewarded with a net 60 and first place low net which jumped him from 16th to 6th in the summer net tournament.  Andrew Yeh has been spending so much time at the driving range that he played today with a very sore left elbow.  That didn’t seem to bother him as he started out birdie, par birdie and added a birdie on the par five ninth for a one under par 35.  He would add three more birdies on the back for a total round of one under par 71.  His playing partner Dave Jordan tried to stay with him with a decent round himself of 39-37-76.  Dick Swayne had the other good of 79. Tom Durenberger had the “Frank Thomasino” award on the par three 12th hole.  His tee shot landed in the dry pond where he bladed his wedge over the green hitting a neighbors iron fence and bounced back on the green two putting for a bogey four.

The next scheduled play is on Tuesday, June 17th at Falcon Ridge at 6:30 and Thursday, June 19th at SKY MT at 9:00.  Always check your sign up sheets for any corrected times or places.  Anyone interested in joining the MMGA can call 346-6363.  Also check out our website at www.mesquitemensgolf.com.
