HOEPFNER SHINES ON BACK NINE  IN THE WINDS FOR MEDALIST
A strong cool northwest wind greeted the MMGA as they teed off at the Casablanca on Tuesday.  A long time player at the CasaBlanca, Ed Hoepfner used his long time experience of the course to shoot a  43 on the front nine but birdied the 18th hole for a super 36 for a 79 total beating out playing partner Andrew Yeh (81) by two strokes.  Two other players recorded 81 as well on the blustery day.  Frank Thomasino just back from his GE class reunion shot 41-40 and Paul LeVan shot 44-37 for his 81.  Yeh’s wining seemed to help as his score turned into a net 70 good enough for first place low net.  Delbert Moore (83) and Tom Durenberger (85) tied for second low net and won it on the second handicap hole #17 with a double bogey.  There was a three way tie for 4th low net between Thomasino, LeVan and Lew Roney (88) at a net 73. Le Van won it with a nice par four on hole five.

MEYER TAMES FALCON WITH AN EAGLE
John Meyer once again proved how much more fun it is to play golf from the forward tees.  Last Thursday it was Jerry Hyland and today it was Meyer’s turn as he shot a one over par 36 on the front with a birdie on the par three eight hole.  His real game came on the normally difficult back side where hi birdied hole 11 and eagled the par five 16th hole for a 38 and an overall score of 74 to win medalist honors two strokes ahead of Frank Thomasino’s 76.  Thomasino was headed for a great round as he made the turn at two over par 37 and birdied back to back holes 15 and 16.  Unfortunately it ended there as he double bogeyed 17 and 18.  Andrew Yeh came in a distant third with 79.  Russ Clark enjoyed one of his better rounds recording only three bad holes on his way to a 91 and first place low net with 65.  One shot back in the nets was Delbert Moore (82).  Third low net went to Thomasino with a net 68 when he parred the 13th hole.  Lew Roney (84) had tied Thomasino’s 68 but his bogey on 13 dropped him to 4th.  Gary Denhalter (86) was one shot out of the money with his net 69.

The hole of the day was recorded by Jim Anderson on the first hole.  His drive hit the cart path on the right and rolled down the path around the corner and ended up only 116yds from the green.  He missed his eagle putt but still got a huge birdie four.  Jim you got to teach Jordan how to hit that long drive!

The next scheduled play is on Tuesday, May 6 at Falcon Ridge at 6:40 and Thursday, Ma y 8th at the Canyons at 7:00.  Always check your sign up sheets for any corrected times or places.  Anyone interested in joining the MMGA can call 346-6363.  Also check out our website at www.mesquitemensgolf.com.
