TEAM FOUR SPOILS BUBBA’S RETURN TO MMGA

The team of John Meyer, Bob Chambers Jim Naccarato and Jim Anderson ruined Bubba Petricks return to the MMGA.  Bubba just had a quad by pass between both hip replacements in the last 10 months and was looking forward to just being back playing golf again with his MMGA members. The format for today’s tournament was a wild card 4-man scramble.  Petrick was teamed up with Andrew Yeh, Tom Durenberger and Don Mannon and thought that nine under par would be good enough to win especially because of the strong winds.  Two things played a role in his defeat.   One his team putted terribly and two, Meyer’s winning score was solidified when they birdied seven of nine holes starting with nine and going through 16 for a total score of 10 under par 61.  Petrick’s team was doomed as they did not birdie any of the par fives for a score of 63while Meyer’s team birdied all of the par fives.  Two shots back was the team of Dave Jordan, Pat Smitty and Dan Trower at 65. Andrerw Yeh had the shot of the day on the par four 15 hole.  He hooked his second shot off of solid dirt, some 167yds from the cup, directly into the strong winds landing on the green and stopping 20 inches beyond the cup for a great birdie three.

MITCHELL  ALMOST  UPSETS  YEH

Andrew Yeh may have played a little to nonchalant on Thurs at the Canyons assuming all he had to do was show up and win.  Clark Mitchell, long time winner on the “Senior Butler” circuit had thoughts of an upset as he shot 38-40-78 to lose by only one shot to weekly winner Yeh who recorded four birdies on his card of 38-39-77.  But Mitchell’s net 64 was good enough to beat out Pat “Smitty” by one shot.  Smitty’s 82 was a net 65 and over a few “Sammies” he was heard remarking that “he was back”.  Third low net went to Sterling Johnson (85) and net 68.  The shot of the day was turned in by “Smitty” on the par four 18th.  Everyone, including “sharp-eyed” Yeh saw his tee shot fly well out of bounds on the right past the houses.  When they walked out into the fairway Smitty”s ball was only 50yds from the green.  He took advantage of that bounce and chunked his second shot short of the green but got it back together as he chipped in for a normal birdie three and a skin.  The group now heads to St. George next week.
