The battle of the valleys ended with the visiting Trojans from Pahrump Valley High School sweeping the host Bulldogs by a combined score of 36-2 in a non-league encounter.
The first game of the day was only 1-0 going into the top of the third inning when the flood gates opened and the Trojans put six more runs on the board leading 7-1 after three. It was just a harbinger of things to come as the strong hitting Pahrump squad lit up the scoreboard with 14 runs in the fourth. The Trojans added three runs in the fifth and final inning making the final score 24-1.
The second game of the twin bill, despite the final score, was much more competitive as the Lady Bulldogs showed spurts of excellent defensive skills. The Bulldogs lost 12-1 to one of the 1-A Sunset Conference’s strongest teams. The Trojans season record now stands at 12-6. The Trojans put up four on the scoreboard to lead 4-0 after one inning. Bulldog senior Kaycee Anderson ended the Trojan rally with a nice running catch. The Trojans began the second inning with a double and a single with no outs. Bulldog Janella Fiso fielding gem, a catch and pickoff at first seemed to get the Dawgs out of a bad situation. It was not to be as the Lady Dawgs allowed two straight walks loading the bases. The next Trojan batter ripped a long triple over the Bulldog outfield bringing in three runs. Bulldog left fielder Mikayla Brotherson ended the Trojan rally catching a long fly ball. The Trojans added four more runs in the top of the third inning to take an insurmountable 11-0 lead. The big blow, another long triple, cleared the bases. The Dawgs showed signs of life in the bottom of the third inning when Tylee Robison was hit by a pitch, moved to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Anderson. Anderson was picked off third base to snuff prolonging any rally by the Dawgs. The Trojans ended their scoring in the fourth inning on an error and a single. The Dawgs defense shined again, as Anderson ran down two more fly balls ending the inning. Fiso surprised the Trojans with her power driving a long ball over the center fielders head for a double. Becca Bramlage walked to put two Bulldogs on base but the potential rally fizzled leaving the final score 12-1. “We had some good and bad things happen today,” said Bulldog Coach Travis Griffiths. “Our defense continues to improve and we battled one of the best 1-A teams in the south.”
The Bulldogs will go on a spring break before returning to play on April 22 at Boulder City. The Bulldogs next home game is on April 25 against non-league rival Pahranaghat Valley.
