Abbie Barnard’s signing to play basketball at Snow College Thursday afternoon, April 10, bucked the odds of most high school athletes. The majority of high school athletes who continue their education at the college level do so, on their own. Barnard’s scholarship with Utah’s Snow College is just a stepping stone for this vibrant young lady. “I plan to go on to BYU-Hawaii after Snow College and hopefully continue to play basketball,” said Barnard. “I need to improve my ball handling, shot selection and definitely time management to succeed at the next level. Right now I’m leaning to a career in Sports Medicine. My biggest goal is to be a mom and have a family.”

Barnard’s high school career was filled with accolades and superlatives as she led the Lady Bulldogs in most offensive statistical categories.

In 2013-2014 Barnard led her Bulldogs to the 1-A Southern Division playoffs. She scored at a 19.1 clip her senior season plus added 5.5 rebounds per game.

Barnard increased her PPG average over her junior season 2012-2013 when she led the Lady Dawgs in scoring at 16.1. Her sophomore season 2011-2012 was one of her best in overall stats as she led the Dawgs with a 16.0 average in scoring plus was high in rebounds, steals and assists. Barnard had the rare opportunity to play varsity basketball as a freshman and averaged 5.4 points per game. Barnard played in 102 games in her Bulldog career and helped Coach Chimane Creer to a 69-33 won/loss record for her four seasons.

“I thank all my coaches, teachers and especially Leon Durbin for instilling confidence and pushing me to succeed. This is an amazing place and I was blessed to be here,” added Barnum. Barnard then signed her letter of intent in front of her parents, coaches and teachers.
