Mesa View Logo_1Mesa View Regional Hospital announced last week it has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval for Laboratory Accreditation.

The Mesquite hospital was also named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission in 2012.

The Gold Seal of Approval is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to “providing safe and effective patient care by demonstrating continuous compliance with its performance standards,” the announcement said.

According to Robert Fuller, the hospital’s director of business development Mesa View Regional Hospital underwent a rigorous, unannounced on-site survey in November 2013. During the review, a team of experts evaluated compliance with laboratory standards related to several areas, including document and process control, healthcare-associated conditions, risk reduction and staff education. Surveyors also conducted on-site observations and interviews.

“We commend Mesa View Regional Hospital for its efforts to have laboratory services contribute and support the overall health care delivery system,” said Chad Larson, interim executive director of the Laboratory Accreditation Program for the The Joint Commission.

“Joint Commission accreditation gives laboratories the processes needed to improve in a variety of areas from specimen collection to result reporting,” Larson added.

“Mesa View is pleased to receive accreditation from The Joint Commission,” added Patty Holden, chief executive officer for the hospital. Holden also is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives. “Being accredited means we are focused on continual performance improvement. Pathologists and other laboratory staff under the direction of Kathy Jo Knight, Director of Laboratory Services are working together to develop and implement approaches and strategies that continue to improve care for patients.

“We have great staff at Mesa View Regional Hospital and this recognition of our laboratory is a reflection of their dedication to quality and safety in delivering care. Our community can be very proud of this health care facility and the national recognition we continue to receive,” Holden added.
