To the Editor:

Well, the Eureka Hotel and Casino has done it again.  “It” being that thing they do where they figure out new and creative ways in which to enrich and serve our community. To name a few of their programs, they sponsor a non-profit organization on Thursdays while they serve up delish Italian dishes and pizzas at the now famous Pasta Garden, serve on many area boards, light up our sky every 4th of July while the Nevada POPS orchestra serenades us, and lest we forget their Pet Project, the Wounded Warrior campaign.  But now they have a new pet project, and we mean that literally- using their indoor and enormous outdoor video message screens to showcase a Pet of the Week for We Care for Animals, the local animal rescue agency that services the Greater Mesquite area.

You may have already been sitting at their corner stop light and noticed a larger-than-life image of such adoptable cuties as “Lola” the dachshund, “Katie” the calico cat or “Oliver” the border collie mix and thought “Hey, what a great idea”!  Well, we thought so too, and with this added exposure to showcase our wonderful pets, the phones started ringing and “Lola” is now being cuddled within an inch of her life and “Oliver” lives across the street from a dog park in Las Vegas and is probably bounding after a ball right now as we speak.  We Care for Animals wants to express our sincerest gratitude for this opportunity to help place loving pets into loving forever homes.  Leave it to the Eureka to think outside the box, and sometimes that even means the litter box!

Sincerely,

Mandy Myers
