The Mesquite Chamber of Commerce is inviting the community to the its first Ducky Derby, according to Vicki Walter, chamber president and CEO.

It is to be held at the Hafen Trailhead Park pond, 450 Hafen Lane, on Saturday, April 19, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. with a race time at high noon.

“Families and individuals are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the race. Ducky Derbys have taken the country by storm as they flock into town after town spreading a ducky good time for friends and families,” Walter said. Cash prizes are awarded for first, second and third place finishers.  Sponsors of the duckies have a chance to win $250 for first place, $150 for second and $100 for third.

Walter said the way to win is to sponsor a ducky, One ducky cost $5 or $25 for six.

The sponsor is given a number and the corresponding number will be attached to one or more of duckies for race day.

“Only those duckies that have a ticket sponsor will be allowed to race in the derby,” Walter emphasized. “As many tickets as you like can be purchased.”

The duckies will be released into Hafen Pond at noon.  The first, second and third duckies to reach the finish line will be winners and ducky sponsors need not be present to win!  Proceeds of the ducky sales go towards the Mesquite Chamber of Commerce.
