Dollar General opened its door to the public in Mesquite on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at 342 W. Mesquite Blvd.

“You need something quick, you got it,” says manager Dustin Werner.

That’s a big part of the Goodlettesville, Tenn., company’s philosophy at  its 11,000 stores in 40 states.

According to the corporation, Dollar General anticipates opening 650 new stores in 2013. The company plans to create 6,000 new jobs in 2013 and Dollar General’s continued growth has created nearly 30,000 new jobs since 2007.

Dollar General is celebrating the opening of the Mesquite store on Saturday, starting at 8 a.m. with free prizes and special deals. Additionally, the first 100 adult shoppers at the store will receive a $10 Dollar General gift card and the first 200 shoppers will receive a Dollar General tote bag, among other giveaways.

Werner recently moved to Mesquite from Big Bear, Calif., to manager the store. He has worked for Dollar General just over a year. Previously he managed the Apple Valley store while living at Big Bear.

Advancement for its sales associates and management is part of the small-box, discount retailer’s business plan, according to the corporate website.

The new store will add approximately 40 jobs to the community, depending on the need. Anyone interested in joining the Dollar General team may visit the Career section atwww.dollargeneral.com.
