The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada has scheduled a consumer session for Thursday, Sept. 12, to hear public comment regarding Rio Virgin Telephone Co.’s rate increase application.

The company proposes to increase the basic monthly residential rate 58 percent from $8.86 to $14. Rio Virgin Telephone Co. also proposes to increase business rates 11.7 percent from $13.43 to $15.

Other proposed rate changes include lowering its direct inward dialing rate from $5 to 50 cents per number and elimination of the Touch Tone service fee, which is currently 75 cents.
